TMJ Treatment

TMJ Treatment

The temporomandibular joint, or TMJ, is the joint that connects the jaw to the skull.

The clicking, grating, or popping noise from the TMJ while opening or closing your mouth, or the soreness while biting, chewing, or speaking can mar otherwise happy days. These aren't the only symptoms of temporomandibular disorder (TMD) or temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJD). Other symptoms experienced when you have musculoskeletal disorders affecting the temporomandibular joint and the muscles surrounding it include:

TMJ Treatment

  • Constant pain in the jaw area
  • Muscle spasms in the jaw area
  • Pain, ringing, or stuffiness in the ears
  • Pain around the temple area
  • Frequent headaches or neck aches
  • Swelling on the sides of the face
  • Dizziness or vertigo
  • Tooth pain without any dental problem
  • Numbness or tingling in the hands and fingertips
  • Chronic fatigue or tiredness

Causes Of Temporomandibular Disorder

  • Ear infections
  • Arthritis
  • Injury or Trauma
  • Bruxism or known or unintentional teeth grinding and clenching
  • Genetic predisposition
  • Severe occlusions or misalignment
  • Any combination of the above

If left untreated, TMJD can potentially have devastating effects on your overall health and well-being, as it may lead to depression, anxiety, widespread pain, and limited range of motion. Fortunately, it can be treated with neuromuscular dentistry. We offer a variety of procedures and services that can be used to treat TMJD that is customized to your specific needs.

How Do We Provide Complete TMJD Treatment?

We first diagnose the cause of the problems and the condition of your temporomandibular joint. With the help of our precise computerized scans and measurement system, we can assess the condition of the affected muscles and severity of TMJD. Based on the oral condition, we decide on the treatment that will be the best fit. We may either prescribe over-the-counter medicines and mouth guards or oral splints for minor issues or we may suggest muscle relaxants such as Botox and surgical procedures for acute conditions. After treating the acute symptoms, we suggest other long-term solutions such as a soft diet, physiotherapy, myotherapy, etc. for permanent comfort.

You don't have to suffer TMJD and its painful symptoms. Book your appointment to start your TMJD treatment today.
