4 Steps to Brush Properly

brushing your teeth

Brushing your teeth twice on a daily basis is one of the basic practices for maintaining proper oral hygiene. But, knowing how to brush properly is equally important. Not brushing the right way can cause damage to your tooth enamel; the outer, protective layer that safeguards your teeth from harm. So, what’s the correct way to brush your teeth? Follow these simple steps to brush your teeth properly

1. Start with the right toothbrush

It is important to have the right toothbrush before you begin the process of brushing. Using the right toothbrush ensures that each area of your mouth is clean and free of harmful debris. Use a soft-bristled nylon brush. You may also consider a toothbrush with a smaller head if you are concerned about cleaning hard-to-reach spaces.

2. Brush for two minutes

Brushing teeth in a hurry will not give you the expected results. Spend at least two minutes brushing your teeth. Spend 30 seconds to clean each area of your mouth – upper teeth, lower teeth, and the corners of your mouth. This helps to clean the mouth thoroughly. You can even consider to invest in a toothbrush that has an automatic timer or has a stopwatch.

3. Use the right brushing technique

Implementing the right technique to brush is an important aspect of brushing right. Tilt your toothbrush to a 45 degree angle and brush your teeth in circular motion. This will help you clean both the outer and inner surfaces of your upper and lower teeth.

4. Be gentle

It is important to brush teeth gently with soft strokes. Brushing too hard can damage the protective enamel of the teeth, exposing your teeth to various dental problems. It can also cause damage to your gums. Brush gently with the right technique to ensure no damage is caused to your dental health.

Now that you know these simple brushing techniques, follow them to stay away from dental issues like tooth decay, gum disease, and cavity. Regular dental visits are also important in addition to following a proper tooth brushing regimen. So, make sure you visit a dentist twice a year, and it will help you maintain your oral health.
